Critique of the Concept of Sovereignty in Christian Democracy

Abstract
The article is devoted to the study of original views of the main ideologist of Catholic modernism J. Mariten on the concept and essence of sovereignty. Based on the analysis of the sources containing Catholic social doctrine, the author concludes that the independence and the power of the state are relative; it obtains them as a result of a transfer by the political society, by virtue of the constitution which the political society has defined for itself.
